Fire Island Pines, Cedar Walk Beach

NYPAC, the New York Performance Artists Collective, is pleased to announce threeASFOUR's SPIEGEL SPIEL, presented as part of the fourth summer of I <3 Fire Island, NYPAC’s annual performance art programming in the Fire Island Pines. I <3 Fire Island celebrates the natural beauty of the island’s landscape, using that context to cultivate the dialog of live performance art and to encourage the community to appreciate the growth and exposure of new art positions.

Operating within a signature creative zone between performance, installation, and fashion, threeASFOUR is equally at home on runways and in museums. For the label’s new project SPIEGEL SPIEL, the trio of artists will create a temporary installation on the beach, in which their signature Plexiglas mirrors will be arranged geometrically as a reflective stage-set. The installation will be part-sculpture, but also part-backdrop, as the audience – and their dogs – will be invited to create and be photographed in one-of-a-kind mirror garments with threeASFOUR. The happening is accompanied by live music, in which a special guest, donning a similarly unique mirrored outfit, provides sonic ambiance for the collaborative experience. Drawing inspiration from sources as varied as Diana Ross, Robert Smithson, and the Velvet Underground’s Nico, SPIEGEL SPIEL celebrates the creative and spontaneous spirit of collaboration and unity.

Recognized as one of the most innovative fashion labels today, threeASFOUR was founded in New York City in 2005 by Gabriel Asfour, Angela Donhauser, and Adi Gil, who hail from Lebanon, Tajikistan, and Israel, respectively. Having worked together since 1998 (under the label AsFour), the trio uses fashion to promote the need for human coexistence and collaboration, and fuses technology with traditional craftsmanship. The collective shows twice a year during New York Fashion Week and has collaborated with numerous artists and musicians, including Bjork, Yoko Ono, and Matthew Barney. threeASFOUR’s designs are in the permanent collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Palais Galliera in Paris. threeASFOUR won the Ecco Domani Fashion Foundation Award in 2001 and the Cooper- Hewitt National Design Award in 2015.
